The secret is out! With so much to offer, Saskatoon is one of Canada's most talked about destinations. As it thrives economically and excels as a forward-thinking metropolis, the door is always open for discovery. It is the place to experience local eateries, bustling nightlife, river trails and other outdoor spaces as well as cultural institutions and museums.
From the revitalized Riversdale district, to more than 80km of parkland trails along the scenic river valley, to the burgeoning local food and drink scene, Saskatoon offers the opportunity to take it all in and explore this unique city in the heart of the Canadian prairies.
If you only have 24 hours in this great city, here are some ideas you can draw from!
LEISURE & CULTURE
While visiting, don't miss travelling down the South Saskatchewan River on the Prairie Lily riverboat cruise, or rent a canoe, kayak or paddleboard to cruise at your own speed, and see the city from a whole different perspective.
Sip craft spirits at Black Fox Farm & Distillery, one of the few farm-to-still distilleries in the country, whose oaked gin recently won a World Gin Award in London UK. Sleep under the stars (and if you're lucky you'll experience the northern lights), in an authentic tipi at Wanuskewin Heritage Park, short-listed as a UNESCO world heritage site.
Saskatoon also has a vibrant arts and culture scene that is being talked about around the globe, with the recent opening of the Remai Modern. This modern art museum is home to works from Canada's famed artists from the Group of Seven, as well as the world's largest Picasso linocut collection, and some of his ceramics.
While at Remai Modern, visit the new Shift restaurant overlooking the river, with local dishes like chickpea fries (Saskatchewan exports 99% of the chickpeas across Canada), perogies (we boast a large Ukrainian population), and 9 Mile Legacy's local craft brew.
EAT & DRINK
Within walking distance downtown, eat at one of the Grassroots Restaurant Group's three restaurants, with many locally grown ingredients served with a creative spin. Led by celebrity chef Dale MacKay, Top Chef Canada Winner, enjoy popular local restaurants Sticks & Stones' Korean/Japanese fusion, Little Grouse on the Prairie's Italian influence, and award-winning Ayden Kitchen & Bar's global comfort food.
If golf is your sport, whether you play for fun or competition, Saskatoon is a golfer's paradise. Offering seven unique public courses designed to challenge skill levels from the beginner to the advanced golfer, our city is home to links of all kinds. We are pleased to feature award winning courses receiving accolades from PGA Saskatchewan and SCOREGolf Magazine.
Golfing in the prairies is not what you'd expect. Just minutes from the city along the eastern shores of the river is the award-winning Dakota Dunes Golf Links, and on the east is Moon Lake Golf and Country Club. If you want a shorter game, Greenbryre features a manageable 12 holes. And you don't even have to leave the city to enjoy a game: there are three municipal courses with varying layouts: Holiday Park, Silverwood and Wildwood Golf courses.
